Is that bird poop on my citrus tree? Wait it moved!
Friend! It will eventually become a beautiful butterfly and rarely causes significant damage to your citrus trees.
Giant Swallowtail caterpillars appear similar to bird poop on citrus trees, the host plant of this species. I see them the most on wild lime. But, they also appear on my other citrus trees. They use the appearance of bird poop as their disguise to hide from predators. They are also probably the largest caterpillars I have ever found in my landscape.
We hope you enjoy seeing these critters in your own landscape. If you have these on your citrus trees, that means you should also be seeing butterflies!
