Right off of HW 17 in the southern tip of Debary, FL is a small but cozy nursery called Natalia's Garden Center. When you pull in, you get a English cottage vibe that is very welcoming. The inventory is small, but the variety was surprising to me - compared to my initial expectation of this small nursery. The welcoming vibe was solidified by the polite and welcoming staff who are ready to assist if you need it.
On the right-hand side of the nursery, you can find various fruit trees. Citrus, UF Peach Trees, Starfruit, Bananas, Olives, Blueberries, Grape Vines, Passionfruit, Guava, and Dragon Fruit were all for sale in 3 gallon or larger pots. Like most other local nurseries, there were not any fruiting plants in pots smaller than 3 gallons. While this size affords bigger plants at time of sale, it also means that the cost is higher. But that is standard across most nurseries. Prices here were comparable to other nurseries nearby.
A decent variety of flowering plants is just to the left of the fruiting plants. There were several 1-gallon size plants and also several 3-gallon size plants. Again, the larger size pots mean a higher price tag. I rarely need flowering plants in the 3-gallon size, so I thought it was somewhat strange that they carried so many 3 gallon plants.
Further to the left is a large Oak Tree offering shade to customers and staff. The checkout table is also located here. Surrounding the oak are even more plants. As you would guess this is where most shade-loving plants are kept.
Behind this area is a small green house - like building filled with various succulents. I am rarely interested in succulents, so I did not spend a lot of time there.
In addition to building edible landscapes, we focus a lot on Florida native plants and pollinator gardens. To my disappointment, there was not a native section at this nursery. While the Florida Native Gardening movement is ever-growing, most nurseries are lagging in updating their inventories for native enthusiasts. I don't know the demand for natives in the immediate area surrounding Natalia's Garden Center, but I would like to see nurseries like this begin to transition to carrying more native plants.
For any wholesale buyers out there, I don't believe they offer any wholesale pricing. And... shame on me... I forgot to ask about any plant warranties they offer.
If you find yourself nearby, stop in and check out Natalia's Garden Center. We encourage everyone to support local small businesses.
