Chaya is a great addition to your perennial edible garden as a leafy green. It is great for foodscapes and food forests. Chaya leaves MUST be boiled before eating. Many experts are suggesting that the leaves are filled with nutritious healthy benefits and may even become a front runner in herbal diabetes treatment.

Not only is this plant edible, but its pretty white flowers attract a variety of pollinators - something all gardeners want. Chaya attracts the most variety of pollinators than any other plant in The Serene Forest.  We love plants that have multiple uses in the garden.

It is super easy to grow and drought tolerant. It can be grown in every light condition but grows quicker in most sun. It seems to tolerate our Florida summer sun with ease. It can grow up to 6ft tall, 4-5ft wide and enjoyes pruning to increase foliage density. It is native to Mexico and Central America but can be grown in zones 9-11 unless it can be protected from cold and frost. It rebounds quickly if cold  temperatures are brief.
