Leavonworthii Tickseed is a FL native short-lived perennial wildflower that becomes semi-dormant in the winter. Flowers will die back but low lying green foliage stays green unless there is a freeze. It is also Florida's state wildflower! Although short-lived, it readily reseeds itself. This tickseed has yellow flowers with a black center that bloom spring and summer.
Tickseed can be grown in full sun or part shade. It will bloom best in full sun.
It prefers sandy soils making it a great plant for tough landscapes.
It can tolerate small periods of drought and does not require irrigation.
It has a natural range in of almost the whole state of Florida besides counties along the GA border.
Tickseed is native to most of the US, and our plants are Florida ecotypes.
Our plants are best suited for zones 8-11.
