Green Eyes are an awesome FL native wildflower that are one the earliest blooms of the year. They will continue to bloom through fall. Not only are the flowers pretty, but they are very fragrant. The best way to describe the fragrance is like mixing vanilla and chocolate. Sounds to good to be true! But it really is an awesome fragrance. This is why they sometimes are referred to as "Chocolate Flowers". These flowers are great at attracting pollinators to the landscape. 
 
They are a long-lived perennial but will go dormant in winter. Before flowering, they are often confused with a weed. The plant is said to be edible but is not great tasting. We like to call this a "famine crop". This simply means that we won't be using it as a primary source of food, but if times are tough we know we can eat it. 
 
Native to Florida. This species is endemic to Florida. 
Natural range in FL includes the central part of the state with some counties in North Florida. 
Likes full sun the most but we have grown it in some shade.
Prefers dry soils with some moisture and will tolerate drought.
Foliage remains low to the ground and flowers reach no more than 1.5' tall.
Can be grown in zones 8b-10
