Cardinal Flower is a short-lived perennial native to most of the southeastern United States. The bold and vibrant red flowers make it stand out in any landscape especially with flowers reaching 3-5 feet tall! While listed as a perennial, it may die back each year but comes back strong either by previous year's plants, or by self-seeding. It makes a great understory plant, rain garden plain, or adds color to any consistently moist area in your landscape. This plant does best in consitently moist soil. You can push the limits by keeping this plant potted.
The flowers attract hummingbirds, a wide variety of butterflies, and other pollinators.
The native range is from Central Florida and north with the boundary being Polk and Osceola counties.
