Firespike is an awesome red flowering perennial that has been naturalized in Florida. The red flowers are bloomed in clusters along the stem similar to the native Tropical Sage with a shape more similar to the native Firebush. Firespike is surely going to bring more pollinators to the yard. Hummingbirds and butterflies love it. 
 
It generally blooms mostly in fall and winter. Sometimes the bloom period extends into spring. Outside the bloom period, the foliage is attractive with a rich green color. This plant reaches about 4-6 feet tall which makes it great for a border or back drop to other flowering plants. The bloom season also ensures your landscape will have color while other wildflowers are still waiting to bloom.

Prefers full sun to partial shade
Enjoys sandy soils or well draining soil. 
It is somewhat drought tolerant.
