Scarlet Runner beans are an awesome edible addition to your garden or food forest. As a "runner bean" they grow fantastically down a fence, up a trellis, or upward supported by bushes and trees. The name comes from the scarlet red flowers that add a nice pop of color on top of being an edible plant. The flowers even attract hummingbirds. In fact, some gardeners grow this as an ornamental.
 
It has a fibrous root that will regenerate new growth in the spring if not killed by freezing temperatures.  
 
The beans themselves are a dark purple in black with a mottle of lighter purple mixed in. We like to harvest them as dried beans. But, you can also harvest young pods and cook like a green bean. They are an easy to grow vine that offer color and food. 
 
Native to Central America
Prefers full sun, but will grow in some shade.
Ours grow best in rich well drained soil.
Give it some room, it likes to run along anything that will support it.
Can be grown in zones 7-11 as a short-lived perennial

Any damaged packages, damaged plants, dead plants or irregular shipping patterns should be claimed through the USPS insurance claims system.
