Seminole Pumpkin is the go-to pumpkin for Florida. It seems resiliant to all the normal gourd pests. Even if bothered by pests, the vine is so fast growing that it usually rebounds so well that you won't notice. Named after the Seminole Indians who grew it after it was naturalized here. Some believe it is even native to Florida. The Seminoles would grow the vine up trees and wait for the ripe pumpkins to fall. This vine can sometimes reach 100 feet in length!
Pumpkins are eaten just like any other pumkin. They store for months in dark, cool, well ventilated spaces. Seeds can be harvested for the next crop.
Pumpkins need cross pollination between male and female flowers. Each vine will have both. Male flowers typically arrive before female flowers do. Flowers typically open first thing in the morning and close by the end of the day. Hand pollination can be performed to increase fruiting.
These pumpkin starts are grown from heirloom seeds that are especially well suited for the southeast.
